Fuel spillage from over­turned lorry causes de­lays

AN over­turned lorry and fuel spillage on the M4 caused se­vere de­lays for motorists on Mon­day morn­ing.

The ac­ci­dent led to the clo­sure of three lanes on the M4 be­tween J4 Heathrow Spur and J4B M25 west­bound, with traf­fic re­ported to be go­ing back as far as six miles, af­fect­ing driv­ers from Har­ling­ton to Houn­slow.

Two peo­ple were treated for mi­nor in­juries.

The Lon­don Am­bu­lance Ser­vice (LAS) said they were called just be­fore 7.15am to an over­turned lorry and treated two pa­tients.

A spokesper­son for LAS said: “We were called at 7.13am to re­ports of a road traf­fic col­li­sion in­volv­ing an over­turned lorry on the M4 near exit 4B.

“We sent am­bu­lance crews and an in­ci­dent re­sponse of­fi­cer.

“We treated two pa­tients at the scene for mi­nor in­juries but no one was taken to hospi­tal.”

One mo­torist, Paul Gar­lick, said he left Put­ney at 7am and had been in the car for five hours.

The Met­ro­pol­i­tan Po­lice has said they were called to re­ports of an over­turned ve­hi­cle on the M4 and the in­ci­dent is dam­age only.

The in­ci­dent hap­pened dur­ing the early morn­ing com­muter rush hour and traf­fic con­tin­ued to queue back to J1 on the A4 at Chiswick Round­about for sev­eral hours.
