Patel claims trophy after round of his life
NORTHWOOD golfer Kavit Patel produced the best round of his life as he looks to set up a game with a European Tour star, writes Sam Meade.
His victory in the Bridgestone UK’s DriveGuard Trophy at Sandy Lodge Golf Club has set him up for a possible round at the Pro-Am of the British Masters in October, which will be supported by broadcaster Sky Sports.
Patel was oozing with pride when he said: “It’s the best round of golf I’ve ever played. Everything went right. It was a perfect day for golf – the sun was blazing!”
Following his victory, Patel will compete in a regional final, followed by a Challenge Tour event at Heythrop Park, in Oxfordshire.
Should he be part of the successful winning team there he will go on to play in the Pro-AM of the British Masters at The Grove in the autumn, when he will accompany a star name of the sport.
The opportunity and competitions are part of Bridgestone’s new golf sponsorship, which looks to raise the profile of certain events and connect with the grass-roots level of the sport.
Patel’s success is testament to the affect the sponsorship is having and he now hopes that he can realise his dream of playing alongside England’s US Open winner Justin Rose.
