Har­ling­ton leave it late to claim vic­tory

HAR­LING­TON Bowls Club recorded a nar­row vic­tory over Bess­ingby this week.

A drawn sec­ond rink left it all to play for go­ing into the third and fi­nal rink and they took full ad­van­tage to claim the win.

Strong ef­forts from Joan Full­brook, Brenda Read and Sheila Cut­more in the open­ing game gave Har­ling­ton a 24-14 lead.

This was fol­lowed by a 23-all sec­ond in­volv­ing Betty Poole, Cathy Fitzgerald and Derek Cut­more, giv­ing the home side a 10-point ad­van­tage go­ing into the last game.

The vis­i­tors per­formed valiantly and came to within a whisker of vic­tory af­ter a 22-15 fi­nal face-off win meant they nar­rowly fell short as Har­ling­ton won the match 62-59.

Mean­while, Rich­ings Park recorded a com­mand­ing win over Burn­ham.

The high­light came with a 30-10 rink vic­tory thanks to Sue Put­tock, Da­gan Burt and Bob Matthews.

The fol­low­ing day, Rich­ings Park played the sec­ond leg of their cup match against Iver Heath. De­spite car­ry­ing a 25-shot lead the vis­i­tors even­tu­ally suc­cumbed to a 23 point de­feat af­ter los­ing all six rinks in a dis­ap­point­ing per­for­mance.
