Stu­dent re­ceives top hon­our at grad­u­a­tion

A YOUNG stu­dent from Hayes has said it was ‘an un­ex­pected sur­prise’ to be given a cov­eted award from her univer­sity at her grad­u­a­tion cer­e­mony.

Gla­dys Ojera was given the Best Phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal Sci­ence Stu­dent award from the Univer­sity of Green­wich dur­ing a cer­e­mony in Rochester Cathe­dral in Kent.

The for­mer pupil of Bishop Ram­sey C of E School in Ruis­lip re­ceived the award from the Fac­ulty of Engi­neer­ing and Sci­ence for her achieve­ments dur­ing her stud­ies.

Gla­dys, 21, said: “It was an un­ex­pected sur­prise. I am de­lighted to have won, and I am so grate­ful to the lec­tur­ers and my fel­low stu­dents.”

Af­ter now com­plet­ing her stud­ies Gla­dys plans to take a gap year be­fore con­tin­u­ing on in her ed­u­ca­tion to start a Mas­ter’s de­gree in 2017.

Pro vice-chan­cel­lor at the Univer­sity of Green­wich, Pro­fes­sor Martin Snow­den, said: “It is a mar­vel­lous achieve­ment to be one of our prize win­ners.

“There is great com­pe­ti­tion among our tal­ented stu­dents to be se­lected for a spe­cial award and I am de­lighted that her hard work and ded­i­ca­tion has been richly re­warded. Gla­dys de­serves her full suc­cess and I look for­ward to see­ing her em­bark on a suc­cess­ful ca­reer.”
