Latest in a series of cash machine explosions
THREE men have been charged after an ATM machine was blown up in a raid at a petrol station near Uxbridge.
The blast on Thursday night in Denham Green, Buckinghamshire, caused huge damage to the petrol station and nearby parked cars.
Three men were arrested at 11.40pm, one of whom had to be taken to hospital after being injured.
Trevor McCarthy, 42, of Barlby Road, Ladbroke Grove, west London; Gary Mills, 39 of Fleetwood Close, Chalfont St Giles and Ray Abraham, 36, Hobart Drive, Hythe, Southampton have all been charged with conspiracy to burgle in relation to the Denham incident.
They have been remanded in custody to appear at Kingston Crown Court on October 7.
This incident is the latest in a string of ATM explosion thefts which have occurred in and around west London in recent weeks including one in Ruislip on Saturday September 3 and four in Hounslow.
An explosion at a Ruislip petrol station could be heard for miles around in the early hours of September 3 after thieves blew up a cash machine.
The offenders exploded the ATM at the Gulf petrol station in West Ruislip shortly before 1.35am, before fleeing with the contents.
No arrests have been made.
Four other cash machines have been destroyed in Hounslow.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said it was ‘too early’ to say if these robberies were connected.
They said: “An investigation will always consider if there are links to other investigations. At this stage, it’s too early to say if that is the case.”
In the first incident a cash machine at a Hanworth petrol station was exploded on August 10.
Days later, suspects made off with an ATM from a hotel lobby on the Bath Road, near Heathrow, which ended in three crashes after a dramatic police car chase.
On August 22, at 1.40am a cash machine in a phone box outside a shop in Heston was blown up.
A further incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday September 7 when an explosion ripped open a cash machine at a petrol station in Staines Road, Bedfont.
