Three charged af­ter raid on garage ATM

Lat­est in a se­ries of cash ma­chine ex­plo­sions

THREE men have been charged af­ter an ATM ma­chine was blown up in a raid at a petrol sta­tion near Uxbridge.

The blast on Thurs­day night in Denham Green, Buck­ing­hamshire, caused huge dam­age to the petrol sta­tion and nearby parked cars.

Three men were ar­rested at 11.40pm, one of whom had to be taken to hos­pi­tal af­ter be­ing in­jured.

Trevor Mc­Carthy, 42, of Barlby Road, Lad­broke Grove, west Lon­don; Gary Mills, 39 of Fleet­wood Close, Chal­font St Giles and Ray Abra­ham, 36, Ho­bart Drive, Hythe, Southamp­ton have all been charged with con­spir­acy to bur­gle in re­la­tion to the Denham in­ci­dent.

They have been re­manded in cus­tody to ap­pear at Kingston Crown Court on Oc­to­ber 7.

This in­ci­dent is the lat­est in a string of ATM ex­plo­sion thefts which have oc­curred in and around west Lon­don in re­cent weeks in­clud­ing one in Ruis­lip on Satur­day Septem­ber 3 and four in Houn­slow.

An ex­plo­sion at a Ruis­lip petrol sta­tion could be heard for miles around in the early hours of Septem­ber 3 af­ter thieves blew up a cash ma­chine.

The of­fend­ers ex­ploded the ATM at the Gulf petrol sta­tion in West Ruis­lip shortly be­fore 1.35am, be­fore flee­ing with the con­tents.

No ar­rests have been made.

Four other cash ma­chines have been de­stroyed in Houn­slow.

A Metropoli­tan Po­lice spokesper­son said it was ‘too early’ to say if th­ese rob­beries were con­nected.

They said: “An in­ves­ti­ga­tion will al­ways con­sider if there are links to other in­ves­ti­ga­tions. At this stage, it’s too early to say if that is the case.”

In the first in­ci­dent a cash ma­chine at a Han­worth petrol sta­tion was ex­ploded on Au­gust 10.

Days later, sus­pects made off with an ATM from a ho­tel lobby on the Bath Road, near Heathrow, which ended in three crashes af­ter a dra­matic po­lice car chase.

On Au­gust 22, at 1.40am a cash ma­chine in a phone box out­side a shop in He­ston was blown up.

A fur­ther in­ci­dent took place in the early hours of Wed­nes­day Septem­ber 7 when an ex­plo­sion ripped open a cash ma­chine at a petrol sta­tion in Staines Road, Bed­font.
