Zahna’s golden match

Harefield Gazette - - MOTORS -

HAREFIELD Academy student Zahna Hall struck team gold at the School Games – and then added an individual bronze.

Hall, 17, was part of the South East squad, alongside Denise Payet, Kate Cheer and Isabelle Joubeily, which won the girls’ team title for the fourth year in succession.

They beat Northern Ireland (7-0), North East (4-3) and North West (6-1) in the group stage and Scotland 4-0 in the semi-finals.

In the final, they faced Midlands and Hall’s 3-1 (12-10, 8-11, 11-6, 11-6) win over Mollie Patterson in the third match was crucial as the team recovered from going behind to come back and win 4-2 overall.

Hall said: “I was optimistic about it but I’m still happy the team pulled together. We needed to work as a team, especially in the final – it was our hardest match.

“I’d never beaten Mollie Patterson before, so that was a good win. I stayed focused and knew it was important for me to win for the team.”

In the singles, Hall reached the semifinals, where she was beaten 3-0 (11-7, 11-6, 11-5) by team-mate and eventual champion Payet.
