Emery the late hero

Harefield Gazette - - SPORT -

GABRIEL Emery earned new first team coach Lee Pettifer his first win in charge of Eastcote Hockey Club men with a lastminute winner against Slough on Saturday.

The first half was an even affair, with Eastcote opening the scoring through a David Cooper penalty stroke, only for Slough to equalise, before Ben Thorpe restored the home sides advantage by brilliantly finishing a well worked team effort.

Slough came back into the game midway into the second half with a clinical finish, but this only seemed to fire up Eastcote, and they started to put pressure on the Slough goal but could not find a way past their keeper.

However, with the game going into the last minute, Stephen Riddleston drove into the D and his skills forced a penalty corner which Emery coolly finished to give Eastcote victory in their penultimate friendly.

They still have one more pre-season game, against British Airways, to come, but the Eastcote ladies got their league season under way with a 2-1 home defeat to Wycombe Rye.
