POLICE officers who stopped a woman in West Drayton were shocked to discover a huge haul of cannabis worth over £250,000 in the back of a rented van.

The search took place on Thursday September 8 in Heathcote Way, after officers spotted the female driver of the van.

While speaking to her, the woman was nervous and could not explain to officers why she was there or what she was doing, so they opted to carry out a search of the vehicle.

Sergeant Chris Kerr with the Metropolitan Police said: “At around 4.20pm Hillingdon Borough Tasking Unit were on mobile patrol, tasked with patrolling the area of West Drayton.

“Their attention was drawn to a female nearby in a small car-derived van.

“Officers spoke to the female driver and due to her demeanour, nervousness, inability to account for her presence and actions (and further information received) a search under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act was carried out.”

Sgt Kerr said the rented van had come from the east London area.

In the back of the van officers found a large cardboard box containing 36 large blocks of herbal cannabis with a street value of around £252,000.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug and is currently on police bail.

Officers also seized the drugs.
