A WILDLIFE park in Denham near Uxbridge has been given a £25,000 cash injection to help improve access and to attract animals.

Frays Farm Fen Site of Special Scientific Interest can now have the major work done thanks to a grant from The Veolia Environment Trust.

Work will include clearing unwanted plants to allow access for volunteers and contractors and clearing scrub from a stretch of the River Colne.

Paul Taylor, the executive director of the Veolia Envionmental Trust, said: “The wildlife trust needs to be congratulated on securing this grant in a very competitive environment.

“It is clear that this project will make a real difference to the site and the people who enjoy it.

“I look forward to hearing about work starting.”

A date for the work to start has not yet been set.

Once the area is made accessible, cattle will be introduced to graze.

The clearing of the scrub along the Colne will also encourage water voles to live in the area and will provide food and shelter for other animals.

Frays Farm Meadows is under threat from the HS2 rail link and local residents have protested against the plans.

It has also been a target for fly-tippers in recent months.
