Ruislip teams play A games in tournament
TWO talented teams from Ruislip Golf Club reached the national finals of NAPGC tournaments last weekend – winning one and finishing second in the other.
They emerged victorious in the final of the Mitchell Thomson Trophy, which is for teams of eight players, all being over 55 of age and with a maximum handicap of 24, playing in pairs.
The winning Ruislip team, pictured left to right were (standing) Terry Sofflet, John Kearney, Larry Hancock, Bob Jeffery, Roy Thomas and Mark Barrett and (squatting) John Sloper and Cedric Roberts.
All eight were also part of the Ruislip team who finished as runners-up in the Clapham Trophy & Ellis Cup and were joined by Glen Hancock, Tony Lucey, Ashley Russell and club captain Martin Manning.
This competition consisted of teams of 12 players, again playing in pairs, but for golfers of all ages with a maximum handicap of 18. Finishing second meant Ruislip took home the Ellis Cup, with the Clapham Trophy going to the victors.
Both competitions were played at Friford Heath Golf Club, in Oxfordshire.
