Da Costa’s late show

Harefield Gazette - - SPORT -

FIL da Costa struck a late equaliser two minutes from time to earn Eastcote Hockey Club men a 4-4 draw at Wycombe on Saturday.

Gabriel Emery opened the scoring for Eastcote before Wycombe moved to a 2-1 half time lead, but the second half produced all the drama as da Costa equalised before Wycombe went ahead again, Ben Thorpe then scored a penalty stroke – a much relieved score after the team had missed two earlier in the season – and with Eastcote playing good constructive hockey, they looked the more likely winner.

Despite this, with four minutes to go, Wycombe score what looked like being the winner, but da Costa was having none of it and struck again two minutes later to earn a share of the spoils.

Meanwhile, with the ladies firsts enjoying a mid-season break, the focus was on the second team and especially Lucy Lavers, who hit a hat-trick to earn her side a 3-1 win at local rivals Harrow in a game dominated by the Reds.
