Look­ing for­ward to work­ing with Trump

THE Mem­ber of Par­lia­ment for Uxbridge and South Ruislip has given his con­grat­u­la­tions to the newly elected Pres­i­dent of the United States, Don­ald Trump.

Af­ter a tur­bu­lent elec­tion pe­riod Mr Trump de­feated ri­val Demo­cratic can­di­date Hil­lary Clin­ton to be­come the 45th Pres­i­dent.

The Repub­li­can can­di­date and busi­ness­man will be sworn into of­fice on Fri­day Jan­uary 20, 2017 when cur­rent Pres­i­dent Barack Obama will of­fi­cially step down.

Mr John­son, who was re­cently ap­pointed to Prime Min­is­ter Theresa May’s cab­i­net as For­eign Sec­re­tary, said he is “much look­ing for­ward to work­ing” with Don­ald Trump and his ad­min­is­tra­tion.

The for­mer Mayor of Lon­don tweeted at around 10am on Wed­nes­day, Novem­ber 9.

“Con­grat­u­la­tions to Don­ald Trump and much look­ing for­ward to work­ing with his ad­min­is­tra­tion on global sta­bil­ity and pros­per­ity,” he said.

He added: “I be­lieve pas­sion­ately in the im­por­tance of the UKUS re­la­tion­ship and am con­fi­dent we can take it for­ward to­gether.”

Prime Min­is­ter Theresa May has also re­acted, say­ing: “I would like to con­grat­u­late Don­ald Trump on be­ing elected the next Pres­i­dent of the United States, fol­low­ing a hard-fought cam­paign.

“Bri­tain and the United States have an en­dur­ing and spe­cial re­la­tion­ship based on the val­ues of free­dom, democ­racy and en­ter­prise.

“We are, and will re­main, strong and close part­ners on trade, se­cu­rity and de­fence.

“I look for­ward to work­ing with Pres­i­den­t­elect Don­ald Trump, build­ing on these ties to en­sure the se­cu­rity and pros­per­ity of our na­tions in the years ahead.”
