Emery strike hoists club into the top four

Harefield Gazette - - SPORT -

MARK Welsh and Gabriel Emery were the heroes for Eastcote as they edged out Oxford on Saturday to move into the top four.

Keeper Welsh was in sparkling form, keeping the visitors at bay to ensure that Emery’s solitary strike was enough to take all the points and move the Boars up a congested table.

Oxford had the better of the early exchanges, but Welsh proved unbeatable with three excellent saves.

Emery broke the deadlock soon after the interval and the hosts controlled the second half to bag an important win. They visit another of this season’s contenders, PHC Chiswick, on Saturday.

The Ladies, meanwhile, climbed off the bottom of South Hockey League 3A with a superb 4-2 win at Henley. Top scorer Claire Devereux, Catherine Ashton, Eleri Smith and Emma Bell were all on target as they stormed into a 4-0 lead and, despite a late rally from their hosts, the ladies held on for just their second win of the campaign.

Sunday’s action saw the over-60s go down 8-3 to Indian Gymkhana in the England Hockey Cup despite goals from Lloyd Wood, Addy Adhesera and Dickie King, while the Ladies Masters drew 1-1 with Wycombe, thanks to Tonia Gann’s short-corner strike.
