Ladies lose out to late, late Ip­swich win­ner

Two goals in the last 10 min­utes sink United at home

DEN­HAM United Ladies suf­fered last-gasp agony in a home de­feat to Ip­swich Town Ladies on Sun­day.

For most of the match, Lau­ren Cox’s goal on the half hour looked to have been enough for all three points, only for the East Anglian vis­i­tors to draw level with 10 min­utes left.

Then, with 90 min­utes al­ready on the clock, Ip­swich struck again to leave the hosts with no re­ward for their ef­forts – like­wise the re­serves, who went down 3-0 to Crys­tal Palace.

There was much bet­ter news for the under-15s how­ever, who are one game from a crack at cup glory after thrash­ing Is­ling­ton 9-0 in their Cap­i­tal Girls County Cup quar­ter-fi­nal.

Player-of-the-match Alisha Ba­jwa and Naomi Hickey both hit dou­bles in the rout, while Holly Sy­mons, Courtey Wool­ley, Tilly Wil­son, Ni­cole Leys and Ni­amh Reynolds were also on the mark for Den­ham.

United will face Tot­ten­ham in the last four early in the new year.

The U14s also got back to win­ning ways in the Hert­ford­shire League, goals from Ais­linn Raf­ferty and Melissa Asavoaie seal­ing a 2-0 vic­tory over op­po­nents Bish­ops Stort­ford.

And the U11 Wild­cats also tasted the joy of vic­tory as they as they saw off the chal­lenge of AFC Wim­ble­don, with two goals from Madi­son Perry and one paiece from Paige Holie and Phoebe Smith, while the U11 Pu­mas won too, against Hearts of Ted­dloth­ian, with Jes­sica Polton, Phoebe Smith, Maisie Swan, Lu­cie Bar­rett and Grace Garn­tham all on the score­sheet.

The U12s were proudly sport­ing their new kit, from spon­sors Pharoah’s Bar­bers, as they en­ter­tained Letch­worth. Although Tay­lor Buchanan fired them ahead early on, the girls had to set­tle for a 1-1 draw.

The U16s saw a great fight­back come to noth­ing as they lost a goalfest 7-4 against AFC Wim­ble­don. Trail­ing 3-0 and 4-1, Den­ham got back to 4-4 only to be un­done by three coun­ter­at­tacks in the fi­nal 10 min­utes.

Alketa Rragami, Char­lotte Par­rett and Ju­lia Thu­rauf were the scor­ers.
