Ladies lose out to late, late Ipswich winner

Two goals in the last 10 minutes sink United at home

DENHAM United Ladies suffered last-gasp agony in a home defeat to Ipswich Town Ladies on Sunday.

For most of the match, Lauren Cox’s goal on the half hour looked to have been enough for all three points, only for the East Anglian visitors to draw level with 10 minutes left.

Then, with 90 minutes already on the clock, Ipswich struck again to leave the hosts with no reward for their efforts – likewise the reserves, who went down 3-0 to Crystal Palace.

There was much better news for the under-15s however, who are one game from a crack at cup glory after thrashing Islington 9-0 in their Capital Girls County Cup quarter-final.

Player-of-the-match Alisha Bajwa and Naomi Hickey both hit doubles in the rout, while Holly Symons, Courtey Woolley, Tilly Wilson, Nicole Leys and Niamh Reynolds were also on the mark for Denham.

United will face Tottenham in the last four early in the new year.

The U14s also got back to winning ways in the Hertfordshire League, goals from Aislinn Rafferty and Melissa Asavoaie sealing a 2-0 victory over opponents Bishops Stortford.

And the U11 Wildcats also tasted the joy of victory as they as they saw off the challenge of AFC Wimbledon, with two goals from Madison Perry and one paiece from Paige Holie and Phoebe Smith, while the U11 Pumas won too, against Hearts of Teddlothian, with Jessica Polton, Phoebe Smith, Maisie Swan, Lucie Barrett and Grace Garntham all on the scoresheet.

The U12s were proudly sporting their new kit, from sponsors Pharoah’s Barbers, as they entertained Letchworth. Although Taylor Buchanan fired them ahead early on, the girls had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

The U16s saw a great fightback come to nothing as they lost a goalfest 7-4 against AFC Wimbledon. Trailing 3-0 and 4-1, Denham got back to 4-4 only to be undone by three counterattacks in the final 10 minutes.

Alketa Rragami, Charlotte Parrett and Julia Thurauf were the scorers.
