Wins puts ladies top

THE OLYMPIC Park was the venue as Eastcote men’s hockey club warmed up for the second half of the season with a narrow friendly win over Wapping 2s.

In what was the perfect opportunity to run off any excesses of Christmas turkey and the like, the Boars were pegged back three times by their hosts before pinching victory courtesy of Mark Allison’s last-minute winner.

Jimmy Thomas fired the game’s opening goal but it needed Gabriel Emery’s strike to restore the visitors’ lead before the interval.

Wapping levelled once more and with just four minutes left the game seemed destined to finish 2-2.

Ashwin Von Gurm’s first goal for Eastcote put them ahead once more only for Wapping to fashion a third equaliser but with seconds left, Allison pounced to smash home the winner.

Meanwhile, Eastcote’s Ladies Masters team went top of the Veterans South League thanks to a 2-1 win against South Berkshire, Anita Huntley and Tracey Gustad the scorers.

The club’s under-16 boys and girls sides were also both in action, a Luke Defanis hat-trick helping the former beat Indian Gymkhana 4-0, while the latter hit five without reply against Ealing.
