Call to help the home­less as win­ter weather sets in

Night shel­ter in Hilling­don needs do­na­tions and vol­un­teers

A NIGHT shel­ter in Hilling­don will soon be open­ing for the win­ter and has asked for the pub­lic’s help to care for home­less peo­ple in the bor­ough.

The shel­ter, based in Hayes, will be open­ing on Mon­day Jan­uary 16 and is run by char­ity St Mungo’s and sup­ported by Hilling­don Coun­cil .

St Mungo’s is look­ing for do­na­tions from the pub­lic but also need vol­un­teers to help pro­vide ac­com­mo­da­tion, break­fast and evening meals for vul­ner­a­ble men sleep­ing rough.

Hilling­don Coun­cil’s cab­i­net mem­ber for so­cial ser­vices, hous­ing, health and well­be­ing, Cllr Philip Corthorne, said: “Hilling­don Coun­cil is de­lighted to team up with St Mungo’s in or­der to help peo­ple in need dur­ing the harsh win­ter months.”

Vol­un­teers are needed to help with cook­ing, sup­port­ing the home­less peo­ple, run­ning the shel­ter and also just pro­vid­ing a friendly face.

This year is the twelfth year the shel­ter has opened and do­na­tions of food, clothes, and toi­letries will be grate­fully re­ceived by St Mungo’s.

Re­gional head at the char­ity Cliff Dy­mond, said: “We are very pleased that Hilling­don has agreed to sup­port this ini­tia­tive.

“We will be work­ing closely with lo­cal com­mu­nity part­ners and thank those who have al­ready gen­er­ously come for­ward to of­fer their time and en­ergy.”
