Il­le­gal im­mi­grant ar­rested in bar

AN 18-YEAR-OLD man who was is in the UK il­le­gally has been ar­rested at Bar Italia, in Uxbridge, by im­mi­gra­tion of­fi­cers.

A team from the Home Of­fice at­tended the restau­rant and bar at around 10pm on Sun­day Jan­uary 14, when they ar­rested the Al­ba­nian man who is now wait­ing to be re­moved from the coun­try.

The Home Of­fice said the ar­rest was in­tel­li­genceled.

A cus­tomer eat­ing at the Nonna Rosa Ital­ian, which is next door to Bar Italia, at the time de­scribed the mo­ment an im­mi­gra­tion van pulled up out­side.

The cus­tomer, who asked not to be named, said: “On Satur­day night while hav­ing a meal at the Nonna Rosa in High Street, Uxbridge, at around 10pm, im­mi­gra­tion raided.

“This left the cus­tomers not waited upon and our evening ru­ined.

“The large im­mi­gra­tion vans pulled up.

“The man­age­ment apol­o­gized and gave cus­tomers a 50% dis­count.”

Nonna Rosa is run by the same com­pany that runs the Bar Italia, the Maryle­bone Leisure Group.

Head the West Lon­don Im­mi­gra­tion En­force­ment team, Chris Ed­wards, said: “We are work­ing hard to tackle il­le­gal work­ing and those who abuse the UK’s im­mi­gra­tion sys­tem.

“Us­ing il­le­gal labour is not a vic­tim-less crime. It cheats the tax­payer, un­der­cuts hon­est em­ploy­ers and means le­git­i­mate job seek­ers are de­nied em­ploy­ment op­por­tu­ni­ties.

“It also ex­ploits some of so­ci­ety’s most of vul­ner­a­ble peo­ple.”

A state­ment from the Home Of­fice said: “Act­ing on in­tel­li­gence, im­mi­gra­tion en­force­ment of­fi­cers vis­ited Bar Italia, High Street, Uxbridge on Satur­day Jan­uary 14.

“They ar­rested an 18-year-old Al­ba­nian man who was in the coun­try il­le­gally. He was de­tained pend­ing re­moval from the UK.”

A spokesman for Maryle­bone Leisure Group de­clined to com­ment.
