SANDGATE under-14s are one match from a crack at silverware after a county cup comeback win over defending champions AFC Wembley on Sunday.

Trailing 2-0 at the break, Sandgate fought back to level the tie at 2-2 before winning through in a tense shoot-out.

The U13 Arrows’ county cup dreams are over though, after they lost 2-0 to Parkfield.

On a day when most fixtures were lost to waterlogged pitches, the U9s were Sandgate’s other winners, edging a nine-goal thriller with Mayford Athletic 5-4. Chay Hudson’s double led the scoring while there were also goals for Donnie Field, Christiano de Sousa and Jasiah Mathurin.

Elsewhere, an Alfie Clark goal could not save the U12 Colts from a 3-1 defeat to Windsor, while the U8s’ introduction to the highest standard division of the Surrey League was a chastening one as they crashed 13-4 to a very strong Worcester Park team.
