EASTCOTE HOCKEY CLUB

Harefield Gazette - - SPORT -

SATURDAY’S top-versus-bottom clash saw Eastcote Hockey Club’s men see off Wallingford 2-0 with a functional performance and two great goals.

There was plenty of ball turnover in the initial exchanges, and as Eastcote got on top, short corners were won and chances spurned – although it was from another short corner that Gabriel Emery broke the deadlock by smashing a rebound into the net off the underside of the bar.

The second half followed a similar pattern and it took a skilful deflection from Jimmy Thomas to secure the win with a second goal, putting Eastcote three points clear at the top of MBBO Regional One. They take on local rivals OMT this weekend.

The ladies’ first team game was a victim of the weather and the mixed team lost 6-2 to Spencer in the first round of the EH Trophy on Sunday despite goals from Peter Brookes and Ben Thorpe.
