Taylor-made cushion

Harefield Gazette - - SPORT -

EASTCOTE Hockey Club men were left with mixed feelings following Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Old Merchant Taylors.

A point in their latest joust with the neighbours was enough to keep the Boars three points ahead of their pursuers in the battle for the MBBO Regional One title.

And while the visitors were left frustrated by a late leveller from their hosts, after goals from skipper Peter Brooks and Jimmy Thomas had secured a 2-1 lead, had it not been for a string of magnificent saves from keeper Mark Welch they could have returned home empty-handed.

Eastcote’s next challenge on the promotion trail sees Aylesbury as the visitors to Kings College Road on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in South Division 3A, Eastcote Ladies eased themselves towards mid-table security with a 6-1 thrashing of Reading 2s. Claire Devereux’s four-timer led the rout with Catherine Ashton and Sofie Marchant also on the scoresheet.
