Animal Rescue with Marion Garnett
Dedicated animal expert MARION GARNETT, founder of the Ealing Animal Welfare Bazaar, continues her column
THERE’S a big rusty hole in the shed at the end of our garden, so we need to watch out.
Hounslow Animal Welfare Society (HAWS) have lost count of the number of stray mothers and kittens they have recently picked up from sheds. HAWS are experts on beds in sheds. They know these stray feline mums look for somewhere to have their babies and, if there is access to a shed and shelter, it can become their maternity unit.
As usual HAWS, and other animal rescue groups, are inundated with requests for help with such strays. Angel and her four gorgeous kittens were picked up from a shed this morning and taken into foster care.
In order to reduce the number of stray animals, neutering is vital. This can be done privately but, if money is scarce, here is an update on places where free and low-cost neutering is available. Please share this information widely.
Mayhew offer a range of free and low-cost neutering at theirclinic. Staff will neuter bull breed dogs free. To book an appointment call 020 8962 8017. If no reply, leave a message. Alterna- tively, email firstname.lastname@example.org. Mayhew is at Trenmar Gardens, Kensal Green.
The London Cat Care and Control Consortium (C4) offer free neutering of cats subject to eligibility. Go to www.cats.org. uk/c4 – if you live in the required area and have been feeding a stray at least 14 days, the cat can be neutered under the scheme.
Dogs Trust offer low-cost neutering if you live in the London boroughs and meet their eligibility criteria. Go to dogstrust.org. uk and type low cost neutering into the search box or call their neutering hotline on 0333 2021148.
The RSPCA offer subsidised neutering in their clinic at Burket Close, Southall. For eligibility, go to rspca.org.uk and type southall clinic into the search box or call 0300 123 0746.
If you meet their eligibility criteria, Blue Cross offer neutering in exchange for a contribution. Call 0300 777 1800 for their hospital in Hammersmith.
Meanwhile, if you can home any of the cats or kittens in HAWS care including Angel and any of her little family, see haws-animals.org.uk or call 020 8560 5443.
