The red carpet was rolled out at the Rosewood in Holborn for the opening gala of the London Film Festival. Hosted by Amanda Nevill, the chief executive of the BFI, and IWC Schaffhausen’s Georges Kern, the party was

brimming with British talent. Douglas Booth, Luke Treadaway and Sai Bennett were among those posing against the gold walls of the 3-D photo booth, while Julian Fellowes

and Tom Hooper caught up over glasses of Ruinart Champagne. Rob Brydon, who was the compère for the

night, kept guests entertained between courses of Cornish-crab crumble and fillet of beef, with impressions of Al Pacino and an impromptu waltz with David Walliams. Yet the star of the evening was Cate Blanchett, who presented

the first ever Bursary Award to the film-maker Hope Dickson Leach, before a heart-stopping performance of film

scores by the London Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.
