NOBU HOTEL SHOREDITCH
Chef Nobuyuki Matsuhisa’s first European hotel showcases the same luxe aesthetic as his iconic Japanese restaurants, blended with east London’s industrial chic. Long dark corridors with flashes of gold lead to 143 sleek bedrooms that have concrete walls, twill textiles, globe light fixtures and beautiful watercoloured screens that slide across the windows at night. Pure white bathrooms are accented by gilded Laufen sinks and a bento-box-style unit hides the minibar. The exterior – a Ron Arad commission – is a work of art in itself, with overhanging floor slabs, cantilevered steel beams and a landscaped terrace that bathes the 240-seat basement restaurant in natural light. As well as serving Nobu favourites by night, there are tempting breakfast options: matcha waffles with smoked maple ponzu and eggs Benedict with crispy tofu, snow crab and shiso Béarnaise. From £249 a room a night (020 7683 1200; www.nobuhotel shoreditch.com).
