Police called to farm over travellers’ camp

Hayes & Harlington Gazette - - NEWS -

POLICE have been called to a site in Yiewsley where dozens of caravans have set up camp near Tesco, but said they were unable to do anything until the landowner asks them to leave.

The travellers were spotted entering land at Philpott’s Farm, just off High Street, on the evening of Wednesday July 13 and there have been police and security spotted on the site.

Police have said that no arrests have been made in connection with the travellers and no criminal offences have been disclosed.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 10.40pm on Thursday July 14 to reports of a group of travellers at a private property in Cowley Road, Uxbridge.

“Before police can make a direction to leave, part of the legislation requires the landowner to take steps to ask for the trespassers to leave and vehicles to be removed.

“Hillingdon borough officers have spoken to the relevant landowners accordingly.”

A van of security dogs was spotted at the entrance to the green space on the morning of Friday July 15 and there have been reports of rubbish dumped in the fields.
