In­juries to po­lice rise

A TO­TAL of 2,600 Metropoli­tan Po­lice of­fi­cers were in­jured while on duty dur­ing the first half of 2017, the Gazette can re­veal.

New fig­ures show a rise from 2,467 dur­ing the same time last year, with an in­crease of 289 in­juries as a re­sult of be­ing as­saulted by a per­son.

Al­most half of the of­fi­cers as­saulted be­tween Jan­uary 1 and June 30 this year were phys­i­cally as­saulted by a per­son, 1,111 in to­tal, com­pared to 822 dur­ing the same pe­riod in 2016.
