THE DENHAM FILM STUDIOS ONCE SCREENED OSCAR-WINNING FILMS TO WORLD-FAMOUS DIRECTORS

-

EVERYBODY has their favourite film and at one stage in their lives may even have been tempted to buy a piece of movie memorabilia or merchandise, be it a glowing Star Wars lightsaber, a gadget-filled James Bond toy car or even a Harry Potter hoodie.

The Denham Film Studios was once the greatest movie laboratory outside Hollywood. This was the place where iconic Hollywood directors such as Steven Spielberg and Stanley Kubrick once sat to watch first cuts of their films.

Now the 12-acre site has been transformed into an art decoinspired collection of luxurious new and converted homes, set among beautifully-landscaped grounds by Weston Homes.

Just minutes from London, there are now less than 20 homes remaining, meaning time is running out to live in a unique property surrounded by cinematic history.

WHAT HOMES ARE AVAILABLE?

Still available are four-bedroom houses which offer 1,560 sq ft (The Lucas) or 1,711 sq ft (The Lester), and start from £644,995. These well-designed homes are ideal for families with spacious rooms, private parking, garages and rear gardens.

Kitchens are fully-equipped, offering integrated appliances, instant hot water taps, designer units and quartz stone worktops. Bathrooms include the latest smart technology with electronic taps, showers and baths as well as vanity units with built-in mirrors and storage.

On a number of plots, there is still time for buyers to create their own bespoke home with a range of wood flooring, kitchen units, bathroom tiles and carpet available.

The studios also offer a stunningly unique house, known as The Scott. Available for £1,500,000, this rare, oneof-a-kind property boasts 2,710 sq ft in the main residence plus a separate annexe studio/games room of 550 sq ft.

As well as five bedrooms and four bathrooms, there are two reception rooms, a very large kitchen/dining area, private rear garden and a gated courtyard for private parking.

WHAT FACILITIES ARE THERE?

If you purchase one of the remaining houses at the studios, not only do you get to live in a luxurious home with the latest designer finishes, but you also have access to impressive communal areas which proudly hark back to the area’s rich film heritage.

The Grade-II listed main laboratory site has been beautifully restored with an on-site cinema as its centrepiece. Residents can hire the cinema where iconic Hollywood directors once sat to watch their films, and entertain friends at the private oval-shaped Actor’s Bar, where there is also a concierge service, available daily, to offer you a touch of the A-list treatment.

HOW ELSE IS THE STUDIOS’ HISTORY CELEBRATED?

Around the development, you will find movie-inspired features such as the Celluloid Plaza, which pays homage to director Stanley Kubrick. Iconic scenes from three of his films are framed in lit, glass sculptures placed in a landscaped square with seating.

There is also Fame Square, which showcases brass plaques of actors, producers and famous films linked to the renowned Denham Film Studios, such as Star Wars, James Bond, Eyes Wide Shut and The Great Escape. It also has a stunning water feature with coloured lighting, for extra ambience.

WHAT IS THE LOCATION LIKE?

While London is only 30 minutes away by train, the town of Denham enjoys a village feel due to its green surroundings. There are plenty of places to eat and drink, as well as enjoy nature with the protected nature reserve and scenic river and canal-side walks.

Denham itself has served as the picturesque backdrop for several films and television programmes, with its leafy roads lined with attractive, wisteria-adorned red brick buildings. Because of the studios, regular visitors to the town included Laurence Olivier, Vivienne Leigh and Elizabeth Taylor who filmed The Mirror Crack’d there.

The development is within walking distance to the train station with direct services into London Marylebone. Quick access to the A40, M40 and M25 makes travel by car just as easy, and Heathrow Airport is only 10 miles away.

HOW CAN I VIEW THE STUDIOS?

The on-site show house is open daily, giving buyers the opportunity to view one of The Lesters. Virtual tours of this home, as well as The Lucas, are also available on Weston Homes’ website.

The Lester show home, and the marketing suite, are both open seven days a week from 10am – 5pm. Weston Homes does however recommend booking an appointment to visit to assist them with managing the social distancing measures in place.

For a limited time, Weston Homes is paying single stamp duty and legal fees on selected houses. On top of this, key workers can save an additional £5,000 when they purchase a new home at The Denham Film Studios. T&Cs apply.
