The new face of Sky Sports Boxing, 33, reveals how she copes with her hectic job
Anna Woolhouse, the new face of Sky Sports Boxing.
1. HAS SPORT AND FITNESS ALWAYS BEEN A PART OF YOUR LIFE?
‘Absolutely. I danced ballet, tap, modern, and acro (dance with acrobatic elements) six days a week from the age of three until I was 24, and took part in sports at school. I’ve never been someone who could sit still! I haven’t danced properly for three years, but dance training never leaves you. Whether I’m in a barre, yoga or boxing class, I find my skills transfer over, especially with the footwork in boxing. I’d love to get in the ring, but I don’t think my bosses would like that!’
2. HOW DO YOU UNWIND AWAY FROM WORK?
‘I train. I find focusing on the task in hand – whether it’s running, going to a HIIT class or hitting the pads – switches off my mind. I try to work out four to five times a week, and massively enjoy being a part of the community at my local gym, but I have to adapt with all my travel. I’m working on my strength training right now, which isn’t something I love, but a necessary evil to build some lean muscle.’
3. DO YOU GET TIME TO PAMPER YOURSELF?
‘I’m not really that kind of person. I love a bath, and I’ll get my hair or nails done occasionally, but that’s it. I’m lucky to have someone to do my hair and make-up before every show, but after a day of wearing a full face of make-up, I can’t wait to take it all off and let my skin breathe. I love using Caudalie skincare products, especially its Beauty Elixir mist (£12 for 30ml; uk.caudalie.com), to refresh my skin during and after filming.’
4. HOW DO YOU STAY ENERGISED?
‘Coffee. I always say I’m sponsored by coffee! Plus, I always drink lots of water and carry healthy snacks in my bag. Good nutrition is massively important to me, not just for aesthetics, but also because I like to take care of myself. Lunch and dinner vary as I’m often on the go, but breakfast is normally rye bread with avocado and poached eggs. I love it – apart from the health benefits – because I’ve finally mastered how to cook proper poached eggs in a proper pan!’
5. WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR JOB?
‘Boxing is like no other sport and is so unpredictable. Within twelve rounds, a fight can go the distance or be over in seconds, unlike many other sports, where matches are a fixed length. I attend the press conference on the Thursday, the weigh-in on the Friday, then the big fight itself on the Saturday and it’s great fun. The passion, incredible fitness and physicality of the boxers is so inspiring.’
