Taylor Swift ’s had a secret Brit boyfriend for the last six months. So, who the hell is he?
She’s been dating British actor Joe Alwyn for six months. So, why keep it hush-hush?
Last week, it was revealed that Taylor Swift has been dating British actor Joe Alwyn for six months – even renting a house near his home in north London, so she could see him in secret. She’s flown over from New York in private jets to meet up with the 26 year old, and worn brown wigs so her London neighbours would have no idea a megastar was living next door. Yep, Taylor’s done everything she can to keep her new romance under wraps. So, how did she do it – and why are we only finding out now?
“Taylor has three jets that she uses, and fans keep track of the tail numbers and noticed she was making a lot of trips between Nashville, New York and the UK,” says our insider. “So she started switching around which plane she used. She also dyed her hair back from platinum blonde to her natural colour, and wore a dark-brown wig when she went out.”
However, Tay’s cover was almost blown in February, when a UK fan tweeted that she’d walked past someone who looked “exactly like Taylor, only with brown hair”. The same month, her voice was heard in squad member Lily Aldridge’s Snapchat video from London. A second source adds, “It’s easier to stay undercover in London – everyone’s always in hats and scarves, and no one expects to see a superstar.
“The house Taylor rented was near Joe’s parents’ place. It was very private, and she hired a local security team. They ventured out a few times with her in disguise, and even sang an Eminem song at a karaoke bar in Camden without being spotted.”
Despite reports that Joe met Tay, 27, through Emma Stone, his co-star in The Favourite, heat can reveal they were introduced at the 2016 Met Gala (where Tay met ex Tom Hiddleston) through Gigi Hadid, who did a Vogue shoot with Joe that month. Taylor split with Tom in September that year, and the following month, took Joe to a Kings Of Leon gig. She was then spotted at a screening of Joe’s film in November, before the pair went for dinner in London in December. They have been together since, with a source telling us Tay was so smitten by February, she told friends at a NY party she’d never date another American boy.
So, why have we only found out now? Well, things are getting serious – Tay’s met Joe’s parents, who he lives with (our insider says Tay “won them over in moments”), and Joe’s met her mum, Andrea. Plus, it’s a good time for Taylor to have positive news around her. As heat reported last week, sworn enemy Katy Perry and ex Calvin Harris have albums out soon, rumoured to feature diss tracks about Taylor.
Our insider adds, “Harry Styles also has an album out, and is getting press by talking about Tay – it’s good to steal a bit of attention back.” Taylor is working on a new album, too, and fans will no doubt analyse the lyrics for clues about her love life. And, finally – they’re going to get spotted together eventually, anyway.
“She wanted to make it a bit longer before they went public, but Taylor’s not been this happy in a long time,” says our insider. “She’s crazy about Joe.” n
