The area’s stunning scenery and historic buildings have starred in some of the most iconic films and TV shows of recent years. You’ll probably recognise Chavenage House in Tetbury as the Poldark family home, and you can take a tour on Thursdays and Sundays for £8 (Chavenage.com). The imposing Gloucester Cathedral was used as Hogwarts in many of the Harry Potter films. During your visit, be sure to search out the Lavatorium, where Harry and Ron saved Hermione from the troll, while the Gryffindor common room door is well worth an Instagram (Gloucestercathedral.org.uk). Parts of Bridget Jones’s Diary were filmed in the picturesque village of Snowshill, which was covered in fake snow during the height of summer to play host to the final scenes. Finally, the Cotswolds village of Bampton doubled as Downton in the beloved drama series. You can still spot the local pub, the village hospital (which is actually the library) and the church where Mary finally married Matthew.
