Meghan’s Christmas with the Queen
It’s charades and party hats at Sandringham this year
Christmas Day round your in-laws is fraught enough, but imagine if your in-laws also happen to be the actual royal family. That’s the excitement/horror facing Meghan Markle this December, as she’s received an official invitation to spend the festive season with her boyfriend Prince Harry at Sandringham.
“Of course she said yes – she’s thrilled to be included,” says an insider close to the Suits actress, who has been dating Harry, 33, for over a year, with an engagement said to be imminent. “But that doesn’t mean she’s not intimidated by the idea of spending Christmas with the whole royal family – including the Queen. Meghan’s also worried about her mum, Doria. They’re very close and always spend Christmas Day together, but the Sandringham estate is in Norfolk, which is thousands of miles from Doria’s home in LA.”
Luckily for Meghan, 36, she has a new ally in the form of fellow royal significant other, Kate Middleton, 35. “Kate’s offered to put Doria up in a guest bedroom at Anmer Hall – the house she and William live in at Sandringham,” says the source. “It’s where the entire Middleton family will be staying this year, and Doria can join them.”
It’s thought the Middletons and Meghan’s mum will have Christmas Day at Anmer Hall, while Meghan, Harry, Kate, Wills and the kids will join the rest of the royals at the Queen’s, then they’ll all get together for the traditional Boxing Day hunt.
Our source adds, “Kate was a bag of nerves the first time she did Christmas with the royals, so she knows exactly how daunting it must be for Meghan.”
