What Fresh Hell

LUCY VINE (ORION, £8.99)

It’s no secret that weddings are big business. And when we say big, what we mean is HUGE. Vast, in fact. An all-encompassing madness of spending lunacy that begins with everyone’s favourite pre-nuptials event – the hen do. Did you know that the average cost, per person, of these shindigs is now a staggering £507? We’ve had holidays on Greek islands for less. The way we feel about hen dos is bemused at best, which is probably why we instantly fell for Lilah, the lead character of this new novel from the bestselling author of Hot Mess. Lilah’s best friend Lauren is engaged, so it falls to her, as maid of honour, to organise the hen party. This would be OK if Lauren wasn’t the bridezilla from hell. What follows is six months of bridal fittings, oiled-up men, mishaps and general carnage as Lilah tries not to murder anyone. It’s hugely relatable and hilarious – we loved it! ★★★★★ Isabelle Broom
