Cheryl’s got a revealing new song and she’s anxious
As she gears up for her comeback, the nerves are starting to show
She may be back with a sexy new look, but as Cheryl prepares to release her first new music since 2014, we’re told her insecurities have returned. Later this month, the singer – who was spotted filming the video for new single Love Made Me Do It in London last week – is set to perform on The X Factor stage to coincide with the song’s release, but securing the slot has not been an easy task for the former judge.
“Cheryl is lined up to appear on the show, but Simon Cowell has told her it’s provisional, and he won’t be officially confirming until nearer the time,” an insider tells heat. “Cheryl knows Simon’s also been talking to [her ex] Liam’s people and a few others, so she’s really anxious.”
Cheryl, 35, had previously been rumoured to be returning as an X Factor judge for the new series, but is now appearing on BBC1’S The Greatest Dancer instead. And while she is friends with Simon, our source says he has told her, “This is business,” adding, “This performance is make or break for her, and she knows it. Her audience and fans watch The X Factor – but she’s too proud to beg Simon.”
But Simon won’t want to miss out on the publicity it could bring, as Cheryl is very honest about her love life. We’re told, “Cheryl is not holding back on this song.
As well as saying she’s the ‘sucker’ who falls for every ‘f**ker’, she admits she made mistakes, then says she’d do it all again and is unapologetic for her choices.”
If Cheryl – who has 19-monthold son Bear with Liam Payne – does get to perform on the show, our insider tells us the singer is nervous about the reaction she may get, especially as Liam’s 1D bandmate Louis Tomlinson is on the panel. “While she was never unfriendly with Louis, she didn’t encourage a friendship while she was with Liam,” we’re told. “She knows Liam is close to Louis, especially as they both now have children with women they’re not with, so she suspects that Louis knows some of her secrets.
“He’s obviously Team Liam – he’s doing Judges’ Houses with him, but she hopes he wouldn’t let it show in public.”
Performing in front of Simon, Louis and millions of viewers is bound to bring on the nerves for Cheryl, who’s not always comfortable with doing live performances. She admitted to being “absolutely terrified” before her 2014 X Factor performance, and Rikki Loney, a contestant who Cheryl mentored, said at the time, “She was shaking, and she said she couldn’t believe she was so nervous. We were trying to tell her, ‘You’re going to be all right.’ It felt a bit like we were mentoring her.”
Once the performance is out of the way, if Cheryl’s new music is a success, she will be back on the circuit and likely to bump into Liam. Our source says, “Cheryl knows it’s inevitable that she and Liam are probably going to have some sort of awkward run-in with each other at some stage – and the though of it is making her anxious. They have the same audience, and will be looking to do the same sort of events. She’s considered calling Liam to talk about it, but Cheryl is really proud and so always does a U-turn at the last moment. She is saying if it becomes a reality, then she will style it out – and he should be the one worried about running into her!” ■
