RNLI crew miss moment in spotlight

-

MEMBERS of the RNLI Torbay volunteer lifeboat crew missed watching themselves on TV as they were called out on a rescue just as their moment of fame began.

The Torbay crew featured in the latest episode of the series Saving Lives At Sea, helping a yachtsman who suffered a horrific leg injury when two yachts collided off Brixham.

But they didn’t get to watch it as they were called just as the programme began to rescue the 14-metre sailing yacht, Pelagis, six miles east of Hopes Nose. The skipper of Pelagis, which had two people on board, reported propeller and rudder problems. Severn Class all-weather lifeboat Alec & Christina Dykes towed Pelagis to just outside Brixham Breakwater, where she was placed alongside the lifeboat to be brought safely to a mooring. The volunteers have since caught up on their missed Saving Lives at Sea heroics.
