Watercolours of Throcking

WIN an original painting

Hertfordshire Life - - CONTENTS -

My visit to Throcking was made around the time my wife and I made a special journey to Northumberland to visit close friends Kathryn and David. It had been my privilege that some time ago they commissioned me to paint Willow House, situated very near to Throcking. I found it wonderful to be back on familiar ground.

It gave me enormous pleasure to select subjects to paint in the small village of Throcking, with some wonderful surprises. Not least was the picturesque church, hidden behind trees and entered by an equally tucked away entrance gateway.

You may be thinking what’s the connection with Northumberland? Well I not only painted Willow House for Kathryn and David but four others in which they lived around the county. Our journey to Northumberland, you may now have guessed, was to paint their new (and hopefully last) home, the fabulous Highfield House near Alnwick.

Throcking or Northumberland, it’s a great pleasure to be painting the beauty I find.

POST BOX FOR CART BARNNot much to it but looking so lovely in a cosy hedgerow.

THROCKING HALL COTTAGE In a wonderful position alongside the roadway and convenient to record with my camera.

GREEN BEAUTY BETWEEN GREEN TREES I walked along the entrance drive which revealed this colourful building with fascinating additions to the roof.

COTTERED ROAD Here I found the village notices alongside a classic telephone box at the edge of the green.

THROCKING CHURCH ‘Small is beautiful’ but big enough for this small village.

THE GARDEN SEATOne of those things I dream of finding, not just the seat but enhanced by the lovely garden.
