Listed property deeds search

Hertfordshire Life - - FEEDBACK -

Royston and District Local History Society is currently trying to track down title deeds of listed properties in the area, as in many cases they get lost.

In recent years the Land Registry has superseded the need for the necessity of keeping old deeds to properties. A working party of the society is trying to track them down before important historical information is lost forever.

We will be approaching listed property owners in Royston to try to discover where their title deeds are kept, with a view to saving them for posterity. The deeds may be privately held or deposited for safety with a solicitor.

The documents often contain information of previous owners and of neighbouring buildings which can seldom or never be found anywhere else.

We hope they may not be too surprised when we contact them and they may even be interested in the information themselves.

Kind regards, Rosemary Bateman R&DLHS committee member
