Bury your head in a free book
THERE’S already been a World Book Day with schoolchildren across the borough dressing up as their favourite characters, now it’s the adults turn.
As part of a celebration of all things literary, centring on the St George’s Day birthday of the Bard, William Shakespeare, scores of books are being given away in a bid to bring about a ‘big read’ and encourage infrequent readers to indulge.
At Burbage Community Library volunteers will be holding a special event on Thursday April 20 to mark this year’s World Book Night.
More than over 100 copies of the book The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra are being given away during the evening open session which runs from 4pm to 7pm.
‘Book givers’ will also be handing out copies in and around Burbage over the following weekend.
World Book Night is an annual celebration of reading and books, run by The Reading Agency, which takes place on 23 April, Shakespeare’s birthday and UNESCO Day of the Book.
A spokesman said: “Research from The Reading Agency has shown that reading for pleasure is a more powerful factor in life achievement than socio-economic background and can contribute to positive mental health. Come and support World Book Night and see what Burbage Community Library has to offer.”
