Six of the best to perform

-

THE Oxford Concert Party, a lively and highly entertaining group of six musicians with a unique repertoire, will be appearing at Barnacle Village Hall on Friday April 21.

Their name comes from the fact that they have a real sense of occasion, creating a party atmosphere wherever they play.

A spokesperson said: “They really have fun in their concerts with virtuoso performances, zany and offbeat humour. It’s the kind of show where it’s not unknown for a few couples to get up and dance.”

Lynda Burton, a member of the Barnacle Village Hall committee said: ‘They are a decidedly unstuffy bunch of superb musicians. If your spirits need a lift then this concert will do the trick, don’t miss it.

“Oxford Concert Party communicates their love and enthusiasm for excellent music to audiences of all types and in all sorts of venues.

“Their programme is a mix of Vivaldi, French café music, Argentinean tangos, Irish Laments and polkas from Finland and so much more.

“The six musicians are led by Arne Richards who has a lovely way of getting an audience involved during a performance. It’s an exciting and approachable musical evening that brings listeners young and old a lot of pleasure, perhaps jogging memories and certainly inspiring you to go out and listen some more and are ideal for an audience of all ages.”

When not playing with the Oxford Concert Party the musicians are in demand right across the musical spectrum with the BBC Symphony and RTE Concert Orchestras; playing for awardwinning musicals in the West End, with Glyndebourne and Welsh National Opera orchestras and backing Coldplay, Suede and Spandau Ballet!

They are regulars on BBC Radios 3 and 4 and are exceptionally versatile, with a repertoire of three hundred years of music from around the world which they turn upside down and infuse humour, energy, passion and pathos.

The event will take place at Barnacle Village Hall, which has a fully licensed bar, on Friday (April 21) at 7.30pm and is a Live and Local show. Tickets, priced £8.50 are already selling fast so contact Lynda Burton on 024 76619126 or email lyndakburton@gmail. com to reserve yours.
