WADE ON WATER Bumper catch as late start leads to plenty of bites

EASTER Sunday’s Lychgate Fisheries open match was fished in the afternoon and catches were much improved as the fish liked the later start.

Steve Oswick took the honours with an impressive 89lb 12oz catch of carp from peg 2. Craig Owen came second with another mainly carp catch weighing 59lb 10ozs. Paul T Twigger was third with 55lb 14ozs while Steve White completed the top four with a 54lb catch.

Higham Lane’s open match on Easter Saturday had a bumper turn out and the carp feed around the lake. Lee Rigby fished bomb and pellet on peg 1 to catch a winning 82lb 11ozs of carp to 8lbs. Colin Webster came second with 79lb 6ozs, John Varley was third with 74lb 3ozs while Mick Linnett finished fourth with a 66lb 9oz catch.

Bites were at a premium in Saturday’s Lychgate Fisheries open. Although hard, catches were very close and just 4lb separated the top six anglers! Colin Chapman took the honours with a 26lb 8oz catch from peg 44. Mark Sidwell finished a very close second, just 2ozs behind with a 26lb 6oz catch. Ian Shirley came third with 25lb 12ozs while Paul Bates finished fourth with 25lb 6ozs.

Higham Lane’s Easter Monday open match was won by Paul Cook who pole fished pellet on peg 7 to catch 54lb 13ozs. Alan Grewcock took second place from peg 4 catching on the pole to finish with 46lb 11ozs. Charlie Shaw finished third with 43lb 11ozs.

Paul T Twigger completed a good weekend by winning Lychgate Fisheries Easter Monday open. Drawn on peg 35 Paul pole fished meat on the hook and feed pellets to catch 67lb 8ozs, with most of his fish caught in the last 90 minutes. Dan Eaton came second with a 45lb 12oz catch from peg 55. Danny Ross weighed 37lb 14oz to finish third with Mick Wilson coming fourth with a 33lb 10oz catch.

Neil Vickers caught fish from the start to win Maynes Lakes midweek open.

Fishing meat down the side Neil finished with a 58lb 1oz catch.

Results: Pool One Section One, Neil Vickers from peg 38. Pool Two Section Two, Colin Bent 28lb 7ozs from peg 7. Pool Three Section Three, Danny Ross, 33lb 10ozs from peg 50.

Brookfield’s Easter Day open at their Stoke Golding water was won by Ray Lewis with a 32lb 9oz catch of carp and bream from peg 16. In form Danny Ross claimed second place with a 25lb 4oz catch. Stu Campton finished third with 14lb 5ozs.

Thursday’s Higham Lane Fishery open match was won by Paul Gardner, who pole fished corn in the margins on peg 7 to catch 54lb 11ozs. Andy Stewart fished his successful waggler method to take second place with a 46lb 7oz catch. Steady Eddie Sharrad finished third with 42lb taken on pellet feeder tactics.

Mill on the Soar’s midweek open contest was won by Pete White, again! Drawn on peg 10 Pete pole fished pellet to catch a winning 26lb 11ozs. Paul Cayless drew peg 6, again, fishing pellet feeder under the tree he landed 20lb 8ozs to finish second. Tom Watt came third with 16lb 14ozs.

Terry Brindley returned from holiday to take the honours in Wednesday’s Lychgate Fisheries Open.

Drawn on peg 66 Terry pole fished pellet to land 44lb 4oz of carp to win. Ian Shirley fished the method on peg 2 to take second place with 29lb 2ozs.

Paul Bates came third with 18lb 10ozs from peg 81.

Higham Lane Fishery have an open match every Thursday, draw 9am.

Lychgate Fisheries have open matches on Saturday and Sunday. Check draw times with Paul.

There’s no more planned open matches on Saturdays until further notice at Higham Lane Fishery due to club bookings.
