NKF still in title battle

-

NKF Burbage were back in action on Easter Saturday playing hosts to bottom of the table Castle Vale Town.

Burbage went into the game knowing three points would guarantee them promotion and went in search of an early goal.

But despite making some good opportunities they were unable to make the breakthrough.

Although looking comfortable, it was not the most inspiring 45 minutes of football.

The half-time whistle blew with neither side breaking the deadlock.

Burbage also knew that if Montpellier failed to win at home to Alcester Town, three points would be enough to secure the league title and with news filtering through that Alcester were holding Montpellier 1-1 at half-time it made the first half all the more frustrating.

Burbage did take the lead shortly after the restart when Liam Storer finished well at the back post from an Andy Farren free kick. Jess Adcock settled the nerves with a fine finish from outside the box a few minutes later.

Castle Vale ensured a nervy final five minutes when they scored with a fierce effort from the edge of the area.

Burbage held on to win 2-1 and waited to see if Alcester had held on, however Montpellier had ran out 3-1 winners meaning Burbage still require another two points to secure the league title when they host third-place Northfield Town on Saturday at Barwell.

The game with Northfield promises to be a cracker with both teams wanting the win, Burbage to secure the league title and Northfield will be wanting to win to in their push for the second promotion place.

With Leicester City not playing the club is offering Leicester City season ticket holders the opportunity to come along for half the normal entry price, (normal price is just £3 adults, £2 concessions with under 12’s free with accompanying adult).
