THE BODY of a former Hinckley man who went missing from his new home in Northern Ireland has been recovered from the River Foyle.

The remains of Sam Comber were found a week after he dis- appeared.

It is understood the 39-yearold moved from Hinckley to Derry around a year ago.

He was last been seen on Sunday May 13 in a supermarket in the city’s Quayside and his bicycle was later found in a lay-by in the Newbuildings area outside the city.

Several of his personal items were found on the riverbank and it is thought he may have gone for a swim and got into difficulty.

His family launched a Facebook page to raise awareness of his disappearance and friends, neighbours and others in the community carried out searches.

On Saturday May 20 the Police Service Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed that Mr Comber’s body had been found by the Foyle Search and Rescue team.

During his disappearance former friends and acquaintances in Hinckley shared Face- book posts appealing for information and many shared their condolences when the said news came to light.

Amanda Jayne Dagley posted: “A beautiful soul, gone too soon. May you smile down and watch over your loved ones, finally at peace xxx.”

Jackie Tansey, who knew Sam through a neighbour, said: “He was a lovely lad with a heart of gold. I don’t think I ever saw him without a smile on his face.”

Mr Comber, who was also known as Sam Harold, had moved to a rural area outside Newbuildings in Derry around a year ago.

Following the discovery of his body his family posted on Find Our Sam Facebook page and thanked all those who helped find him, including relatives of Jack Glenn, whose body was recovered from the River Foyle in March.

They wrote: “We can confirm that yesterday Foyle Search and Rescue found our Sam. This is a difficult time, but we would like to extend our gratitude for those that helped us this week. The kindness of strangers was never as apparent as this week. Sam always spoke of how he loved the people of Derry.

“He knew there was a warmth and kindness in their hearts, just as he had.

“We saw the extent of that this week.

“Thank you for bringing Sam home.”
