Council collects ‘cares’ award
BLABY District Council has been recognised for its work with partners and the community at the 2017 Leicestershire Cares Awards evening.
The authority was presented with the Kelvin Irons Memorial Award for Outstanding Partnership for its efforts to encourage staff into volunteering to help youngster get on the job ladder.
Through long-standing links with Leicestershire Cares - which provides opportunities to county firms - council employees have helped with career days and mock interviews at three Leicestershire academies as well as the council itself benefiting from other firms workers supporting projects at open spaces Fosse Meadows and A Place to Grow.
Mark Foote, strategic manager for people, performance and assets, said: “We are so proud and delighted to receive this award. This partnership has not only given us the chance to enhance our open spaces but given our colleagues a unique opportunity to give local students an important life experience.
“We’re hugely grateful to Leicestershire Cares and businesses for the support given through the volunteering projects we have been able to offer and we hope to benefit for a long time to come.”
