140,000 portions of strawberri­es and cream

WIMBLEDON’S caterers provided 28 tonnes of strawberri­es for punters to consume at the tournament this year.

Those strawberri­es will be able to be daubed in 10,000 litres of dairy cream, creating an whopping 140,000 individual portions of the competitio­n’s most iconic dish.

That makes strawberri­es and cream the most popular food item on the menu at the SW19 venue.

Tennis fans are also able to get their hands on 86,000 portions of ice-cream, 76,000 sandwiches, 30,000 pizzas, 25,000 scones and 16,000 portions of fish and chips.

There will also be a whopping five tonnes of bananas on site.

As many as 330,000 cups of tea and coffee are supplied by Wimbledon’s caterers.

That’s more than any other category of drink at the world famous competitio­n.

Pimms proves to be the most popular alcoholic tipple with 320,000 glasses of the drink being provided.

That makes it almost three times as popular as beer with only 110,000 pints being supplied.

The caterers also supplied the tournament with 29,000 bottles of champagne and 230,000 bottles of water.
