Hinckley Town edge out Amateur

-

HINCKLEY Town edged out the Amateurs in a tight finish at Ashby Road.

Amateur got off to a steady start with Gary Roach first to go with 12, and opening partner Jason Tipping top scored with 48.

Shoiub Dadu hit 35 and Sam Gill 16 but the Amateur batsmen struggled against some accurate spin bowling, until some lusty blows from James Axon who hit two 6s in his unbeaten 25 taking the score to 182-8 in their 45 overs.

Ajaz Pathan was the best of the Town bowlers producing figures of 4-43.

Town got off to a good start in reply and reached 91-1 before a superb caught and bowled by Mick Butterworth got rid of the dangerous Don Bhagwhati who finished on 64.

The wickets soon tumbled and at 157-7 the game was in the balance.

But a fine unbeaten 48 not out from Ashar Zuberi saw the Town home with two wickets to spare.

Mick Butterworth continued his fine season by taking 5-47 in bowling figures.

With holidays weakening their team Amateur 2nd XI struggled on a difficult pitch at Asian Sports.

And although Richard Stanford top scored they could only muster 54 all out.

Skipper Matt Smith took two wickets in reply as they lost by seven wickets.

Amateur 3rd XI travelled to Loughborough Greenfield and with a young team did well to get to 124 all out but lost to a vastly more experienced side by nine wickets.
