Sadness at death of ‘Squirrel Lady’

Hinckley Times - - NEWS -

TRIBUTES have been paid to a well known figure in Hinckley’s Queens Park who died recently.

Known only as Muriel, or ‘The Squirrel Lady’, she was seen feeding the squirrels and birds in the park on a daily basis and often chatted to other park users.

Floral tributes have been left at two spots near to where she spent so much of her time.

One card, left with a bouquet of flowers, said: “Sadly Muriel (The Squirrel Lady) passed away on Thursday 31st August.

“Remembered fondly by all her friends in the park.”

Another said: “RIP Muriel (squirrel lady). Will miss you!”

While a third said warmly: “For a lovely lady. “Will miss our chats in the park. RIP x” Stuart Siney said he saw Muriel in Queen’s Park and near St Mary’s Church regularly.

Contacting The Hinckley Times on Facebook he said: “I never knew her name but I would see her everyday feeding the squirrels in Queens Park and the church, everyday for many years.”
