Walking challenge for Tesco employees
TESCO workers will be walking across Hinckley as part of the supermarket’s Land’s End to John O’Groats challenge.
Staff are walking the length of Great Britain to raise funds for their national charity partnership with Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation.
Some 80 colleagues will don their walking boots for the latest leg of the walk, striding anything from five to 50 kilometres.
The partnership began almost 30 years ago, when six Tesco colleagues decided to walk the route.
Ashley Baker, store manager at Tesco on Station Road, said: “I’m delighted to be joining my colleagues across the country on the Great Tesco Walk.
“Over the last few years we’ve managed to raise £21m for our National Charity Partnership, which is helping to prevent the occurrence of Type 2 diabetes and heart and circulatory disease.
“We’re proud of that achievement and I think this epic undertaking is a fitting way to go that extra mile to celebrate the contribution we’ve made.”
Some 1.2 million people in the region live with diabetes or heart and circulatory disease, conditions which the walk seeks to raise awareness of.
The route through Hinckley starts at Tesco superstore Daventry and ends at Hinckley superstore, on September 16.
