Cat’s close shave at recycling centre

Hinckley Times - - NEWS -

A kitten who was rescued from a skip at a recycling centre in Leicester aged just six weeks old is looking for a new home after recovering from a serious leg injury.

Staff at Wastecycle, in Enderby Road Industrial Estate, Whetstone, contacted the RSPCA after finding the kitten among rubbish.

The kitten had an injured and bleeding leg when she was found, and it was initially feared that she would need her leg amputating.

But RSPCA staff didn’t give up on treating her, and thankfully her leg has now fully healed.

RSPCA animal collection officer Sharon Knight picked up the kitten - who has been named Ashley - from the recycling centre.

She said: “Ashley was so lucky to have been found.

“She was so small and was in a large skip full of rubbish, so she could easily have been missed. If that had been the case sadly she would probably not have survived much longer.

“We don’t know how she got there - her mum could have been a stray and left her behind, and her leg injury could have been as a result of being among heavy rubbish.

“A vet initially believed that her injured leg would need amputating but thankfully it has mended and will no longer need to be operated on.

“She is such a lovely cat who has had a difficult start to her life. We really would love to see her go into a loving new home.”

Ashley is currently at the RSPCA’s Block Fen Animal Centre, in March, Cambridgeshire.

Anyone who would like to register their interest in adopting her should contact the centre on 0300 123 0726.
