SCHOOLBOY William Keyte will be guest of honour at the annual Christmas lights switch-on in Earl Shilton on Friday November 24.

Seven-year-old William won the chance to flip the switch for the town when he entered a competition to design a poster to promote the event back in September, at the town show.

William will be officially turning on the festive illuminations at 7pm but the fun in the town will start at 5.30pm and continue until 9pm with food, stalls and attractions in Wood Street.

Leicestershire Co-Op Silver Band and singer Kerry Jean will be providing the soundtrack for the event which will include face painting and fairground rides for children, a snow machine, hog roast and festive stalls.

Father Christmas will be attending as the guest of Barwell and Earl Shilton Lions Club, whose members will be preparing a special grotto to make him feel at home.

Free mince pies and warm drinks will be served in Earl Shilton Methodist Church, courtesy of Earl Shilton Town Council.
