Fun night will boost breast cancer charity
A HINCKLEY mum is organising a family-friendly fundraiser in support of a breast cancer charity.
Samantha Paterson decided she wanted to help Breast Cancer Care because she knows women who are battling the disease.
The mum-of-two is holding the event on Saturday December 16 at the Wykin Social Club in Frederick Avenue.
The club have offered her the function room for free and a range of local businesses have already provided raffle and tombola prizes.
Samantha, 32, said: “People have been very generous so far but if there is anyone who wants to donate anything then the more the merrier. I’m just trying to raise as much money as I can.”
Doors open at 7pm for the evening which will feature games and competitions such as “guess the weight of the cake” and “guess the name of the teddy” along with a tombola and other activities.
Cakes will be on sale as well as sweet cones for candy lovers, old and young alike.
There will be a live band and a DJ is also being arranged. Admission is 50p for adults and over 10s.
Anyone who would like to help or offer items for the night can contact Samantha at milli2003@hotmail. co.uk
Breast Cancer Care is the only UK wide charity offering care, information and support to people with breast cancer.
It was founded in 1973 by Betty Westgate, five years after her own diagnosis with breast cancer in 1968. A FEAST of fun in aid of vulnerable children is promised this Friday at Hinckley Methodist Church.
The venue plays host to a Children in Need fundraising event organised by local couple Eddie and Carole Spencer.
The pair are longstanding supporters of the BBC sponsored charity event and used to hold Pudsey parties in their back garden.
They have taken to hiring the Methodist Church, of which they are members, as Eddie explains: “We’re getting too old and it’s getting too cold.”
The event takes place from 4pm to 8pm and an actual visit by Pudsey the bear is expected.
Among the attractions will be model railways, Scalextric and refreshments such as tea and cake. All are welcome to attend.
