School dances for Diwali
A BOLLYWOOD style dance day was used to introduce primary school pupils in Earl Shilton to the Hindu festival of Diwali.
Youngsters at Townlands CE Primary Academy enjoyed a day of Indian dancing led by Kalpesh Zalavadiya of K’Z Dance Entertainment in which they learned a routine to perform to their parents at home-time.
All 297 pupils plus staff from reception class to Year 6 took part, with older pupils, from Years four to six also learning a traditional Hindu stick dance that is often danced in celebration of Diwali, the autumn festival of lights.
Headteacher Marie Ward said the energetic dance workshop proved great fun and that pupils enjoyed performing their routine so much that they gave an encore, with parents invited to join in.
She said: “This wonderful experience helped enrich their knowledge of Indian dancing and their understanding of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights.”
