Festive appeal launched
FIRMS across Hinckley are signing up to a sharing initiative which will bring a smile to vulnerable children this Christmas.
Business members of Leicestershire Cares are backing the venture’s 18th annual festive appeal, which this year is in aid of Leicester based charity Toys on the Table.
The aim is to collect as many toys as possible to give to children who might otherwise not receive any gifts this Christmas.
Last Christmas, Toys on the Table made sure more than 8,000 gifts were matched up with 4,000 children aged up to 16 in Leicestershire and Rutland. The children are referred to the charity by a variety of agencies and their schools.
Volunteers from Leicestershire Cares’ member firms will also be helping by wrapping the presents.
Toys on the Table president Terry Watts said: “Each year we rely on the generous support of many organisations and the public. Having the additional backing of Leicestershire Cares and its members will be a massive help.
“Getting many more companies involved will make a tremendous difference to our efforts to benefit the needy children of the city and coun- ties. They will help with collecting and donating toys and groups of their workers are joining our volunteer teams. What a superb boost for this year’s appeal.”
Since its first year in 2000, the Collect for Christmas appeal, run by Leicestershire Cares, has seen more than £250,000 worth of gifts and cash donated for a wide range of local charities.
Hinckley and Rugby Building Society, one of the local members of Leicestershire Cares has already signed up. Leicestershire Cares matches volunteers from county companies with charities or community projects in need of assistance.
